As a population geneticist, I am interested in evolutionary and biological factors determining genetic variation in tree populations. My principal research interests concentrate on (i) comparing sampling strategies to assess genetic diversity and differentiation in natural populations, (ii) elucidating the evolutionary history of tree populations, particularly fruit tree species that were domesticated (for example assess gene flow and admixture between wild and cultivated material), (iii) investigating how mating systems evolve and influence the level of genetic variation in populations (in particular, I studied the evolution of a mixed mating system, gametophytic self-incompatility combined with asexuality). I use both theoretical models and experimental approaches to answer my research questions.
