INRA, France – Water Relations and Ecosystem Functioning
Lisa Wingate is senior scientist within the newly formed unit studying the Interactions between Soils Plants and the Atmosphere (ISPA) at INRA Bordeaux. She received her PhD from the University of Edinburgh investigating the C balance between photosynthetic and respiratory processes in forest plantations and their impact on the atmosphere. Since then she has continued to improve the representation of photosynthetic and respiratory processes in ecosystem and global models by making flux measurements in the field and laboratory. In particular, Lisa Wingate is a specialist in using the stable isotopes of CO2 and water to probe and improve the current theories embedded in state-of-the-art dynamic vegetation models. Her past research has provided insights on microbial and plant metabolism that can be used to constrain large-scale phenomenon at the global scale. Her most current project funded by the ERC will ambitiously bring together novel laser spectrometry techniques with a metagenomic study to understand the community ecology of soil microorganisms across the world and how different biomes and the function of their soil communities modify and imprint the isotopic composition of the atmosphere.
